This has made it possible for an increased number of people to have Internet access at home. In the early days when Internet access became available to the public, sex was one of the most frequently used search terms on the search engines. Initially, scholars speculated about the man-machine hybrid—the cyborg—and its possible consequences. The report shows that generational differences influence which arenas are used and how they are used. Section five had six questions about positive and negative experiences from using the Internet for love and sexual purposes. Those who engage in cybersex spend more time online for sexual purposes and have more offline sex partners in comparison to those without this experience. One woman in an unhappy marriage talks about falling in love online with a man she has never met, but chats to on webcam: Almost two-thirds of the participants in one study reported they had met and had sex with their Internet partners; only 44 percent of them reported using condoms. However, these women also experience a lot of backlash from readers, who feel they are unsettling ideas of Indian womanhood and threatening the stereotype of what a mother is supposed to be. In addition, prior studies are predominantly empirical with little connection to social theory. Section two had twenty-eight questions about love and sexual activities on the Internet focusing on what activities the respondents engage in, how frequently, and why. Due to the low number of gay men and lesbians, the original variable sexual orientation was collapsed into a two-category variable heterosexual, nonheterosexual. But to build lasting trust, couples must dig deeper in therapy. All the blog posts in this series are written by Richa Kaul Padte, the official rapporteur at the workshop. Hertlein also encourages couples to use the Internet to strengthen their relationships by enjoying pornography sites together or visiting websites for ideas about romantic dates or new sexual skills.
